Seek out a dermatologist: Advanced Dermatology Treatments.

A dermatologist can help you understand how your skin is aging and help guide you to the best ingredients, products and procedures to keep your skin looking and feeling itas healthiest best for years to come.

Also, if you have any risk factors for skin cancer, or if you have a high degree of sun exposure, you should see your dermatologist regularly. A dermatologist will be able to perform screenings and tests that can diagnose any problems, and the dermatologist can help recommend treatment to maximize your skin health.

Microdermabrasion was developed to treat acne and minimize acne scarring, as well as to minimize pox marks, wrinkles, age spots, or other scarring. During the procedure, a dermatologist uses a small, handheld tool to exfoliate your skin, revealing the newer, smoother layer of skin beneath. It is a safe and painless treatment with minimal side effects.

Microdermabrasion can improve the appearance of dull skin, uneven skin tone, fine lines and wrinkles, blackheads, and even sun damage.

Dermal fillers help to diminish facial lines & restore volume or fullness in the face. Therefore injections and fillers are also highly encouraged during this spring period.

Chemical peels, botox, or laser skin treatments a all additional dermal treatments which can be used help to slow down the effects of aging. These advanced dermatological injections provide long-lasting results and can be administered in your dermatology office, including in one single visit.

Men’s Skin Protection – Spring & Summer Months

Daily use of sunscreen must be a priority; especially if you work or spend more than twoAhours a day outside.Sunscreen is still your best resource in the next months.

Even in the spring, the sunas rays can be harmful. In fact, ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight is the greatest in North America during the late spring and early summer, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Additionally all skin has been covered up by clothing or materials which have shielded it from the skin. Therefore, you skin is even more susceptible to sun damage during the warmer and sunnier months.

Remember most moisturizers with sunscreen arenat water-resistant, so you canat rely on them to protect your face or body if you swim or sweat. Some arenat broad spectrum sunscreens either, so they donat shield you from ultraviolet A rays, the kind that can cause aging and skin damage. The bottom line is that everyone, even those with darker skin, should use sunscreen when theyare out in the sun for any length of time.

Sun Protection - Men Spring Skin Care

Sunscreen protection - Men Spring Skin Care

  • – When you go out, dress appropriately. Sunscreen is just one part of a smart sun protection program.
  • – Cover up with a long-sleeved shirt or light jacket to protect your arms and a hat to protect your face and neck.
Remember sunscreen on cool and overcast days. Clouds expose a lot of UV rays; up to 80 percent of them reach the earth.
    Be Prepared.
  • – Apply sunscreen to exposed areasaface, ears, back of the neck, and handsa15 to 30 minutes before you go out to give it time to start working. And reapply sunscreen every two hours, if youall be outside that long.

Men need to moisturize too: It’s about hydration.

Just as your body requires more water, so does your skin.

During the spring and summer, you need hydration. Higher temperatures result in oilier skin for everyone. Since thereas humidity in the air, a heavy moisturizer isnat necessary. Therefore, use a lighter moisturizer during spring and summer months.

So, lotion up: While your skin does get a dose of hydration from the warmer climate, sweat and sun exposure actually dehydrate the skin, so lotion is still necessary. Remember to apply the cream to your hands and nails as well as the rest of your body a these areas are often easily overlooked!

spring-cleaning-getting-rid-of-outdated-medicines

Re-fresh the medicine cabinet: Update old skin care products.

Toss and purge old cosmetics and skin care products. These products have a shelf life. Old, outdated products can harbor bacteria and lose their effectiveness.

Check the dates on your products. You may want to toss the following:

  • – Anything past the expiration date
  • – Products that appear dry or crusty
  • – Anything that has changed consistency, color, or smell
  • – Anything with an SPF older than one year (SPF loses its effectiveness over time and itas just not worth the risk.)

Toss your old razors and blades.

Think that having a bad pimple is painful? There’s more threatening issues others than razor bumps orApseudofolliculitis barbae.

Ever considered that you could possible become infected by a deadly form of a staph infection known as MRSA as a result of yourAbreakout from the result of using old and dull razors, blades and clippers.

Therefore, throwing out and replacing those old or dull blades isAextremely important and sanitary for your health.

Comparing Skin Treatments

Comparing Skin Facial Treatments

Skin resurfacing treatments help to restore a more youthful, beautiful complexion by removing the most damaged outer layers of skin to reveal younger, vibrant looking skin beneath -simply by encouraging new, healthy skin cell growth.

Skin rejuvenation is anything that makes the skin look better a skincare products, treatments or in-office procedures.

The Glowing Differences:

Skin Rejuvenation & Skin Resurfacing

Skin resurfacing is simply a method of reviving (simply rejuvenating) the top layer of damaged skin. Skin resurfacing can be achieved in a host of methods. Lasers, acids or other means are the more common methods used to remove damaged cells on the skinas surface.

a?When it comes to skin treatments, thereas lots of good news in therapies for medical conditions as well as cosmetic concerns,a? says Dr. Kenneth Arndt, adjunct professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School.

A growing population of healthy, active older women who want to look as young as they feel has spurred the development of skin rejuvenation techniques that are more subtle and have much shorter recovery times than face-lifts.

Always consult a dermatologist to weigh the possible risks and explore your benefits from the best available treatments.

Cosmetic procedures arenat covered by insurance, so cost might also be an important factor in choosing your skin rejuvenation procedure.

The Most Common Skin Rejuvenation Procedures.

The following are several often-used techniques to remove fine wrinkles, scars, uneven pigmentation, and other imperfections.

Botox.

Microdermabrasion.

Injections of botulinum toxin a a category that includes Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin a are relatively affordable, have very few risks, and require no recovery time. And theyare quite effective at temporarily smoothing a wrinkled face, brow, or neck.

In this procedure, the doctor or aesthetician sands an area with tiny aluminum hydroxide crystals to create smoother-looking skin. Itas relatively inexpensive, and no recovery time is needed.

Soft tissue fillers

Injections of soft-tissue fillers under the skin can add height to cheekbones, improve the jawline, diminish acne or surgical scars, restore fullness to hollow cheeks and eyes, fill fine vertical lines, re-sculpt lips, and fill in nasolabial folds (the deep lines that run fromAthe outside of the nostrils to the corners of the mouth). Some fillers, such as hyaluronic acid and poly-L-lactic acid, are eventually absorbed by the body. Others contain tiny beads of solid materials suspended in gel. The gel is absorbed over time, and the beads form a scaffold for collagen growth.

Is Your Fragrance Causing Wrinkles

Sweet Toxic Fragrances

The perfumes used to give cosmetics and beauty products their pleasant scent are complex and often comprised of several different chemicals, many of which have been found to cause everything from allergic reactions to cancer. There are as many as 3,000 chemicals being used as fragrances in not only perfume, but most of the beauty and personal care products on the market. Many of these chemicals have yet to be tested for toxicity and include known hormone-disrupting chemicals and carcinogens.

“An allergen is a protein that is known to cause an IgE-mediated reaction,” explains Beth A. Miller, MD, director of the University of Kentuckyas Asthma, Allergy, and Sinus Clinics and chief of the school’s division of allergy and immunology in Lexington. IgE, or immunoglobulin E, is an antibody produced by the body in response to exposure to an allergen.

Is Your Fragrance Causing Wrinkles

Fragrance Allergies -ASkin Reactions

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) are antibodies produced by the immune system. If you have an allergy, your immune system overreacts to an allergen by producing antibodies called Immunoglobulin E (IgE). These antibodies travel to cells that release chemicals, causing an allergic reaction.

An irritant, on the other hand, doesnat provoke the immune system. But it has no problem making eyes water or noses run.

It’s not understood how or why this happens. “An irritant is a chemical or product that causes symptoms without a known immunologic cause,” says Miller, so it does not cause an IgE-mediated reaction.

“Sensitivity is really a non-specific term,” notes Miller. Only an allergen can cause a true allergy, while “irritants cause sensitivities.”

The bottom line: What people call a “perfume allergy” is either fragrance sensitivity or an allergy to some chemical in the perfume.

Fragrance Causes – ABurns or Brown Age Spots

Have you ever noticed that some ladies have distinct brown discoloration on areas such as the neck, dAcolletage and even on and behind their ears! This condition is a direct result of daily application of perfume to these areas.

Some perfumes even contain bergamot, a fragrant fruit that is photosensitive, meaning that it can cause aging spots or brown spots on your skin when it combines with the sun on your skin. The solution: spray perfume on your clothes instead of directly on your skin. Age spots are flat, brown, gray, or black spots on the skin.

Your favorite perfume or cologne is likely to contain alcohol, which when applied to your exposed skin during daylight hours, causes it to become photosensitive to sunlight. This means your skin is more likely to suffer from sunburn, leading to wrinkles,Apigmentation and possibly even skin cancer.

So basically, applying perfume directly to the skin will accelerate burning; which in turn, sunburn causes wrinkles and pigmentation.

Contact dermatitis is a fairly common effect of perfume on the skin. This can cause your skin to develop a red, itchy rash that can be quite painful and even blister and become infected, depending on the severity of your reaction to the product. Those who use certain products regularly increase their risk of a severe reaction and even chronic skin disorders, such as eczema.

Safe Skin Perfume Tips:

  • – Spray your perfume onto your wrists.
    • – (Just donat rub them together a this bruises the notes, altering the scent.)
  • – Squirt your delicious smelling smell onto the skin under your clothes.
    • – (Avoid spraying it onto your actual clothes a fragrance can stain fabrics!)
  • – Heat helps emit the perfume from your body, so any body parts like your inner elbows and knees are also wonderful places to spray.
  • – Oh, and spritzing your fragrance on your hair does leave a lovely lingering scent, but the alcohol can also dry out your strands so be careful when doing this.
    • (Try spritzing your hair brush instead.)

Black Men Shaving Tips: Prevent Barberas Rash (Pseudofolliculitis Barbae)

Black Men ShavingAProblems

Itas the timeless battle in which every black man often experiences head-on. AThe vicious and often ferocious battle between the razor and ultimately those nuisance soldiers called razor bumps.

Which leads to the age-old questiona.

Razor Bumps/Pseudofolliculitis Barbae:

a?Why Do Black Men Suffer From Razor Bumps (Pseudofolliculitis Barbae)a?

Short answer – razor bumps are caused by shaving. Sometimes when a hair is cut off at the point where it exits the skin, it can curl back and start growing inwards. These ingrown hairs cause irritation to the hair follicle, which swells into a small red lump that looks a bit like a pimple. A razor bump forms when a hair that has been cut off close to the surface of the face turns around and begins growing back into the skin.

[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CVnZR2iIU8[/embedyt]

Pseudofolliculitis Barbae and Shaving.

This painful process only affects about 20% of Caucasians, while various sources claim that between 60-80% of black men are affected.

The main reason why black men get razor bumps more often than their white or Asian counterparts is because the type of curly hair is particularly likely to become ingrown.ABlack men often have coarse or curly hair, which may lead to razor bumps and ingrown hairs. a?People with darker skin often are susceptible to inflammation, such as that caused by razor bumps; along with hyperpigmentation,a? says Dr.ALawrence Jaeger, DO of Advanced Dermatology Associates in NYC and the Bronx.

Razor bumps form as new strands of hair curl back, puncture, and re-enter the skin while growing. Although not a serious health problem, these bumps are by no means pretty and can be a nuisance. They can fill up with puss, cause skin discoloration, or give rise to keloidal scars. The worst part is that razor bumps itch and cause quite a bit of discomfort. And when these pustules develop an infection from staph bacteria, they turn into a more serious skin disorder called Barberas rash or folliculitis.

Also, darker skin is more prone to keloid scarring, which can develop if razor bumps are left untreated. Which is why it is especially important for black men to learn how to prevent and treat this common skin condition or seek dermatological treatment.

Black Men Shaving Tips: Prevent folliculitis

SHAVING TIPSA-ABlack or Darker Skin People Should:

  • – Always use a sharp razor blade and discard old blades after 4-5 uses. You might think this is excessive, but dull blades force black men to go over the same area of skin again and again, increasing the chances of irritation and improperly cutting hair. This goes for electric razors, too: replace the blades after every few months of use.
  • – Reduce your number of shaves by shaving every other day. Giving the skin time to heal will allow hairs to grow straight through the skinas surface, without forcing too-short hairs back into the skin. Frequent shaving too close to the skin will trap hairs inside the follicles.
  • – Exfoliate!AExfoliate!AExfoliating with a gentle scrub like Microfine Face Scrub removes the top layer of dead cells and allows hairs to grow out more easily. It also helps soften skin, clears pores and evens out patchy skin tones.
  • -AMany African-American men benefit from using a single-blade razor, or a Deep Edge razor. Most dermatologists will encourage patients who suffer from razor bumps from using triple or quadruple blade razor systems. They exponentially increase the Apotential for razor bumps. The closer the shave, the worse the razor bumps will be.
  • – Always shave in the direction of hair growth. While shaving upward seems to give a closer shave, shaving in the hairas direction reduces irritation and the likelihood of hairs growing back into the skin. Donat pull skin taut when shaving since this can also cause ingrown hairs to form.
  • – Soften hairs before shaving by massaging warm water into the beard area and then applying a professional-grade, highly-lubricating shave cream. Allow it to sit on the face for a minute or two to completely coat hairs before shaving.
  • – Follow a shave with an after-shave solution that contains hydrating ingredients like aloe, witch hazel and tea tree extract like Post-Shave Repair to cut down on redness and discomfort. Stay away from products that contain alcohol since this can dry skin out and provoke an ashy appearance in black skin.
  • – Resist the urge to pluck ingrown hairs out. A new hair will just grow again, and youall be facing the same exact problem…even worse. It can become irritated.
  • -Most importantly, take your time when shaving.AStop that 30-second shave on Monday morning. Taking your time toAshave slowly and with care can dramatically reduce nicks, cuts and abrasions that can aggravate razor bumps.
  • – Aloe Vera is your best friend because it act as a moisturizer which will help speed up the healing process of the razor bumps. Aloe Vera also helps with the burning and soothing pain or discomfort.

Best Lip Relief – Whatas On Your Lips.

Lip Relief – What do you reach for when your lips become chapped, dry and begin to experience cheilitis. Not sure which brand or product is best for your lip condition? ByAexploring the many options available to yourAtroubling lip issues will you begin to take stronger returns forAwhat’s on your lips and how you’re either helping or hurting those suckers in the end.

The Best Lip Relief: Lip Balm, Salves, Butters

Lip balm or lip salve:

Lip balm is a wax-like substance applied topically to the lips of the mouth to moisturize and relieve chapped or dry lips, angular cheilitis, stomatitis, or cold sores. Lip balm often contains beeswax or carnauba wax, camphor, cetyl alcohol, lanolin, paraffin, and petroleum, among other ingredients. Some varieties contain dyes, flavor, fragrance, phenol, salicylic acid, and sunscreens.

Dry lips are also caused due to dehydration. Lip balms are just intended to protect, moisturize, nourish, condition, and hydrate your lips. Lip balms are made to stop irritation of the lips by keeping them moist or hydrated. Lip balm may come in various forms such as small round tubs, jars, cylinders or twist up tubes. They may be applied using your fingers or directly from the packaging that it comes in.

Lip balms are most commonly made of beeswax or similar ingredients which form a protective layer over the skin and prevent loss of moisture. They basically seal in all the moisture to prevent dryness. A lip balm may be clear where it contains only the base ingredients or it may be tinted with a host of other ingredients.

Some lip balms are being made with SPF which means they give you an additional advantage of sun protection.

Lip Balm TipsA(for selecting the best lip balms):

  • Avoid ingredients like phenol, menthol and salicylic acid. Some lip balms a typically those containing ingredients like phenol, menthol and salicylic acid a make the lips drier.Aa?You have to apply more, and it becomes a vicious cycle,a? Dr. Piliang says. a?Sometimes these cause a tingling feeling when you apply them. They either cause irritation or remove outer layers of the skin. They exfoliate. Then you have less protection, and youare more susceptible to environmental factors, so you have to apply more product. Avoid lip balms that contain thoseAingredients.a?
  • Limit your use of lip balms containing scents or added flavoring. The chemicals in scents and added flavorings can irritate your skin or cause allergies. They dry out the skin and then it can feel more chapped.
  • Find lip balm that is at least SPF 30. Use lip gloss or lipstick thatas at least SPF30 a and use sunscreen on your lips when youare at the pool or beach.
  • -ABe cautious of those lip balms containing petroleum. As harmless and “normal” as it might seem, petroleum jelly and mineral oil, which are derived from oil refining, can possibly be contaminated with carcinogens called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and 1,4-dioxane.

lip-balm-vs-chapstick

Lip Butters:

Genuine lip butters will contain actual butters, like avocado butter, shea butter, olive butter. All these help to soften and nourish your skin. BEWARE – Cheap lip butters will often contain some form of petroleum as their ingredient. So try to stay away from these.

ChapStick:

ChapStick is just a brand name of lip balm manufactured by Pfizer Consumer Healthcare and used in many countries worldwide. It is intended to help treat and prevent chapped lips. However, ChapStick is just a very popular brand of lip balm, and probably one of the most commonly used one, people have gotten familiar to calling every type of lip balm, a?ChapSticka? when itas not always the case. ChapStickas purpose is to prevent chapping.

Keep in mind that all chapsticks are lip balms; whereas all lip balms ARE NOTAchapsticks.

Keep These Factors In Mind When Shopping for Lip Balms…

  1. 1. Look for the seal. “The vague terms ‘green,’ ‘organic,’ ‘natural,’ and so forth are not regulated,”. Companies can slap those terms on any product, regardless of what’s inside. Instead, rely on seals signifying a product has been certified by an independent third party, such as the “USDA Organic” seal or the “Natural Products Association Certified” seal, “both of which restrict the use of unhealthy synthetic ingredients.a?
  2. 2. Stick to beeswax: Pros: Beeswax works like petrolatum by creating a seal on your lips that protects them from air and other elements that can dry them out. Plus, it’s made by bees, so there’s no worry about depleting nonrenewable resources and there are no adverse health effects associated with licking too much beeswax off your lips.Cons:Due to the current decline of honeybees, beeswax-based lip balms may not be around for us to enjoy forever. Plus, the cost of the ingredient continue to raise the prices of lip products.
  3. 3. Make Your Own or DIY. If your lips are dry and you aren’t in the mood to hit the store, or you just prefer a DIY approach; use a little cooking oil to soothe an irritated pucker, “Any cooking oils will soothe chapping, including safflower, olive, sunflower, canola, and corn oils will help offer some moisture. Just don’t put any type of oil on sunburned skin. It can irritate and prolong the sensation of burning,” expresses Lawrence Jaeger, Medical Director of Advanced Dermatology Associates.

If You Have Chapped Lips,…A

  • – Don’t lick your lips.ASure, it’s tempting, because your saliva will immediately moisten your lips. But as soon as it dries, according to Wu, “things get even worse. It’ll dry them out even more.” The instant gratification just isn’t worth it. And as Fishman reminded us, “Your saliva was meant to digest food. That’s why it’s so drying to the lips.”
  • – If you can, steer clear of all “sticks.” Both matte and long-wear lipstick tend to dry out your lips. “Instead, use a creamy lip conditioner, it’s much less drying.”ABut the truth is, all balms or lipsticks that come in tubes contain waxes that tend to dry out your lips. You’ll be better off opting for an emollient ointment, which can be applied with the tips of your fingers with greater care and gentleness. Dragging a stick across your dry lips, especially one that’s not brand new, can only irritate the skin even further.
  • – Don’t pick your lips if they’re flaky.APicking at them can trigger a cold sore or lead to bleeding. And all of that’s not just unsightly, it can be unhealthy, too, leading to serious infections.
  • – Don’t chew mint gum or use balms with mint, menthol or cinnamon.AYes, gum… and lip balms that share its common flavors. Cinnamon in particular is known to irritate lips.A

  1. 1. Eat Healthier. Nutrition is everything

  2. 2. Sleep/Rest is pivotal. Meditation too.

  3. 3. Protect Your Skin.

  4. 4. Develop an Exercise Regime.

  5. 5. Defy Time. (No Smoking & Drinking)

  8. 8. Laugh More.

  9. 9. Learn More.

  10. 10. Develop a a?No Fear – Mentalitya?

Eat Healthier. Nutrition is Everything.

Forget the food pyramid, meet the portion plate – You might remember the food pyramid from school. It featured 6 to 11 servings coming from grain, cereals, rice and pasta, followed by ever smaller quantities of vegetables, fruits, protein, dairy and, finally, fats, sweet and oils. But health officials have nixed the old food pyramid and instead now offer an easier visual guide: the portion plate. The portion plate is a plate with illustrated images showing how to balance fruits and veggies, proteins and grains at every meal.

Kids in school are learning about the portion plate, which suggests fruits and vegetables take up half of the plate. The remaining half should be split equally, with one quarter filled by proteins and the other taken up by whole grains. In addition to getting the balance right, filling a smaller plate is an easy way to begin to train yourself to eat the correct portion sizes. Keep in mind that one portion of meat, for example, is only about the size of a deck of cards.A

  • – Avoid processed foods in favor of those composed of raw ingredients.

  • – Replace those sugary and salty snacks with their healthier counterparts and reorganize your daily meal plan to include six small bites as opposed to three large eating sessions. This will keep your metabolism busy all day, give you energy, and keep pounds from piling on.

  • – Another easy trick is to avoid making sandwiches with two pieces of bread. Each piece of bread is a full serving of grains, so making half a sandwich instead of a whole sandwich can help save calories.

  • – Fight off disease, stress, and signs of aging by upping your intake of all-powerful antioxidants too.

Sleep/Rest is Pivotal. Meditation too.

Getting more sleep should be at the top of your resolution list. Although everyone loves a little R&R, sleep brings more benefits than just indulging in sweet dreams.
Adequate sleepawhich equates to about seven hours a night, although most people think they can run on lessacan help you manage your weight, improve your memory, live longer, and reduce stress. All those benefits just from catching enough zzzas every night!

There are many things you can do to sleep more soundly this upcoming year, such as sleeping in a dark room, turning off electronics 30 minutes before bed, and getting a better pillow. If your circadian rhythm, the brain mechanism that manages your sleep and wake cycles, needs some re-tuning, try taking melatonin.

Protect Your Skin.

Yes, sunscreen is one huge area of emphasis or concern. But in this case, weare referring to protecting the entire organism – your entire body. This ideally starts with having a current up-to-date diagnosis of knowing where your health issues, concerns and medical problems stand as as of date. Scheduling your yearly physicals, body examinations and sexual history/infection tests can all give you and your doctor the necessary information to help you develop a healthier lifestyle in 2017 with the best available care.

Lower your blood pressure. Cut your sodium intake. The American Heart Association recommends consuming less than 2,300 milligrams daily, which is about a teaspoon of salt. Some peopleamiddle-aged and older adults, people with high blood pressure and African-Americansa need less than 1,500 milligrams per day, the AHA says.

You should visit your healthcare provider regularly, even if you feel healthy.

Tighten Skin After Weight Loss

Battling loose skin after major weight loss and dieting?

Well, anyone who has lost a significant amount of weight knows that the weight loss itself is only half the battle. The war begins after the weight has fell off and the areas of loose skin begin to boldly appear.

Donat fret a weave got your covered with some optimum skin care tips to attack that problematic post-weight-loss skin the natural way; before you venture out to seek out surgical or cosmetic alternatives.

Tips To Tighten Skin – Post Weight Loss

Lose Weight Gradually.

Most experts recommend aiming for 1 to 5 pounds per week, depending on your starting point. A

Exercise To Build Muscle.

Replace the fat that once filled out your skin with lean mass by focusing your fitness routine on strength training, says Lori Shemek, PhD, author of How to Fight FATflammation! “You want the muscle to essentially replace the fat that is being lost to prevent loose or sagging skin,”

Practice Good Sun Protection.

If you spend any time outdoors, take the precautionary steps to reduce your exposure to the sun’s collagen-destroying UV rays. If youare exercising, plan your walk or run for the early morning or late in the day, when the sun is less scorching. Always wear a UV protection sunscreen as the fall and winter months have high levels of UV rays.

Eat Plenty of Colors.

Pile your plate with a rainbow of colorful fruits and vegetables, which contain nutrients vital to skin health, Chipps says. Specifically, load up on vitamin A or lycopeneaa recent research review in Experimental Dermatology reports this antioxidant offsets damage from UV rays. (Try these 25 best foods for healthy skin.) You’ll find it in tomatoes, red peppers, and other rosy-hued veggies. Meanwhile, leafy greens and citrus fruits boast plenty of vitamin C, which helps build collagen, Chipps says

Stay Smoke-Free.

Toss your cigarettes and take an extra step away from any cloud of fumes you pass. Lighting up makes your skin less resilient. exposure to secondhand smoke raises levels of inflammatory proteins in your skin, reducing collagen levels and contributing to thin skin and wrinkles.

See an MD Dermatologist.

You may want to hold off for a face-lift or other surgical procedure until you’ve reached your ideal goal weightaskin responds best to these operations from a “steady state.a? AThose minor in-office procedures can address troublesome areas once you’ve stopped losing the weight, Lawrence Jaeger says.

Speak with a dermatologist about radio frequency devices, which warm and expand collagen fibers to immediately improve your appearance while also stimulating new collagen production for longer-lasting results.

Six Fall Skin Care Routines|Expert Beauty Tips

The dog days of summer are definitely over and for most of us in the Northern Hemisphere.Ai??Weai??i??ve come to the realization that itai??i??s time to say goodbye to the shorts, sandals and flip-flops. Itai??i??s hello – scarfs, coats, hoodies and heaters.

As the season transitions from summer to autumn, the same goes for our skin care. Our physical bodies are literally recuperating from the elemental effects of summer. For instance, our skin is left damaged or burned due to the excessive heat from the hot summer months of sunbathing and visits to the water-parks. Add to that, the salt build-up or chlorine damage to our scalp and hair – from surfing the ocean waves or swimming in the backyard pool. The summer heat and our bodies have been one unified front.

ai???As the seasons change, so should your skin care regimen in order to feel its optimal healthai??? expresses Dermatologist Lawrence Jaeger, D.O. of Advanced Dermatology Associates.

Basically the steps we must now begin to put in our respective regimen may remain the same, but the products our skin, hair & nails needs, will have to change dramatically for the fall season.

But no worries. Weai??i??ve got you covered.

SIX FALL SKIN, HAIR & NAIL CARE ROUTINES.

Expert Tips for Achieving Optimum Health.

SUNSCREEN

Keep your sunscreen handy even after the long days of summer are over. A sunscreen with at least an SPF of 15 or more will protect the skin from aging ultraviolet rays in the fall.

A physical sunblock containing zinc or titanium oxide are ideal for everyday wear in the colder months.

EXFOLIATING CLEANSER

Fall is the time to start adding regular exfoliation to your skincare routine. A gentle facial scrub can help remove sun damaged skin cells for brighter, smoother skin by retaining moisture.

RETINOL

Retinol, also known as “vitamin A”, can help dramatically reduce the appearance of brown spots caused by the summer sun, lines, and wrinkles. A non-prescription retinol serum or a prescription retinoid is recommended, although retinol and prescription retinoids are scientifically proven to smooth the texture of the skin. Retinol is also known to delay skin aging.

USE NATURAL HAIR INGREDIENTS

Prevent further drying your hair by keeping your products all-natural. “Natural ingredients are the go-to because they won’t strip your hair of oils like synthetic and alcohol based ingredients do,”

Make sure to use a clarifying shampoo that washes away normal wear and tear from the environment like pollution and smoke, but does not strip your hair of its natural oils and lipids.

Take The Sunshine Vitamin

The coming of fall means shorter and cooler days. Most people are likely to spend less time in the sun. Especially for the northern part of the United States, supplementation of vitamin D becomes really important. Vitamin D is a gene-regulating super nutrient that helps with seasonal depression (SAD), the immune system, heart health, diabetes, and obesity. Vitamin D insufficiency affects almost 50% of the population worldwide.

Researchers recommend 2,500 IUs every day, especially in the colder months.

Boost Your Immune System.

With the changing season, now is the perfect time to boost your immune system.

Some of natural immune-boosters are: to drink plenty of fresh water, eat plenty of alive (living) raw foods, garlic, lysine, probiotics, Vitamins B, C and D, E3 Live, reishi mushroom, zinc, propolis and Manuka honey.

Another powerful way to boost your immune system and keep strong is to use the power of exercise. Remember get that beauty sleep, too.

The key to a optimum healthy skin, hair and nails begins with having a great regime or routine. Inquire with your dermatologist or skin care specialist for more tips on reaching your optimum health.

Halloween Face Paint – How Toxic Is It?

Halloween is next week and the costumes are already in place to be adorned by children and adults. Halloween face-paint is all the rave. Itai??i??s the art of creation that makes any relationship with a makeup artist, a very prized one. But just how safe is the paint youai??i??re about to smear all over your little oneai??i??s and your own face?

Halloween Face Paint – Trick, Treat or Toxic.

If youai??i??re using face paint to add to your look this Halloween, itai??i??s important to make sure youai??i??re choosing the right products to avoid any harmful effects or skin reactions.

According to a report in 2009 by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC), a national coalition of nonprofit groups working to eliminate harmful chemicals from personal care products.

After testing ten major kids face paints sold in the US, the study found that all ten of the face paints tested contained lead.

Six out of the ten face paints tested contained the known skin allergens, nickel, cobalt and/or chromium, at levels far exceeding the recommendations of industry studies.

Yes, the amounts were low ai??i?? but, as Campaign for Safe Cosmetics (CSC) points out, thereai??i??s no safe level of lead exposure, which is why the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends protecting children from it.

Unfortunately things havenai??i??t changed since then in the industry, as a recent report by (CSC) ai???Pretty Scary 2: Unmasking Toxic Chemicals in Kidsai??i?? Makeupai??? was spearheaded by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and released by the Breast Cancer Fund and the California Public Interest Research Group. The report comes courtesy of the Breast Cancer Fund (BCF), which sent 48 different Halloween face paints to an independent lab to have them tested for the presence of heavy metals such as arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury. Nearly half the paints had trace amounts of at least one heavy metal, and some contained up to four different ones. Paints with dark pigments were more likely to contain heavy metals ai??i?? and at high concentrations.

The report says that of the 48 Halloween face paints tested, 21 had trace amounts of at least one heavy metal and some had as many as four. Lead was found in nearly 20 percent of the paints and cadmium in nearly 30 percent.

Lead is linked to learning disabilities and developmental problems in children and cadmium is linked to breast, kidney, lung and prostate cancers, according to the report.

No Regulation On Makeup.Ai??

So, how and why are these harmful products permitted in face paint, even though lead has been banned in regulated products like house paint for decades?

Unfortunately make-up is not regulated. The law does not require cosmetic products and ingredients, other than color additives, to have FDA approval before they go on the market.

Therefore the consequences of lead exposure are serious and rampant. The California Department of Public Health Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch website states that lead poisoning can harm a childai??i??s nervous system and brain when they are still forming.

  • – Lead can lead to a low blood count (anemia).
  • – Small amounts of lead in the body can make it hard for children to learn, pay attention, and succeed in school.
  • – Higher amounts of lead exposure can damage the nervous system, kidneys, and other major organs. Very high exposure can lead to seizures or death.

face-paint

TheAi??Safest Options.

Since all of the face paints CSC tested contained lead, and none of the metals they found were listed on the ingredient labels, the CSC actually recommends avoiding Halloween face paint altogether until safety standards are put in place. CSC urges parents that, if they do choose to use face paint, they keep it away from kidsai??i?? mouths and hands so they donai??i??t ingest it.

  • Go Natural:Ai??Homemade is the way. Make your own dyes and colors. The CSC has provided some DIY recipes using food or natural food coloring on their website.
  • “Say No” To Paint Kits:Ai??Donai??i??t use paint kits. Professional face paint is actually cosmetic makeup that is made with ingredients that are safe for use on the skin. Halloween face paint kits often contain dyes or color additives that are not FDA-compliant.Ai??Never use craft paint, acrylic paint, markers or pens on the skin, which can cause an allergic reaction and can be very difficult to remove. Use cosmetic makeup products will come off easily using only soap and water.
  • Do a Patch Test (Skin Allergy):Ai??Patch testing may help to find the cause of allergic contact dermatitis.Whenever you use a new makeup product on yourself or your child, you should always do a patch test to check for sensitivity. ai???Non-toxicai??? doesnai??i??t mean it wonai??i??t cause a skin reaction. Take a small amount of the product and apply it on the inside of your elbow. Watch for any kind of immediate reaction after about 20 minutes or so.
  • Wash Off With Soap & Water:Ai??Most of the times face paint products wash off with mild soap and water. For best results, remove with a high quality baby wipe or baby shampoo, water and a wash cloth.Ai??Avoid using low cost baby wipes, as these can be irritating to young children’s skin.
  • Moisturize Your Skin Post-Removal To Avoid Irritation:Ai??To reduce your chances of any skin irritation, breakout or redness, Alice and Pressler believe that itai??i??s best to prepare you face and body before even applying the paint to begin with. Make sure that the makeup is put on to clean, dry skin and steer clear of painting over any wounds or rashes.
  • Also be sure to include a smoothing on a gentle skin moisturizer post-removal. ai???You can use Olay, Burtai??i??s Bees or something from a health foods store. If youai??i??re skin is really irritated, try an ointment like Lucas PaPaw,ai???
